Immediately following your treatment session, you’ll feel some tendernous and bruising in the area between the scrotum and anus. You should be feeling better within a few days and able to return to work and resume normal activities.

One month following your treatment session you may be required to return to the hospital for X-rays, a CT scan and possibly an MRI scan. These scans are carefully analyzed to ensure that the seeds are optimally placed to deliver a balanced dose of radiation throughout the prostate.
It takes approximately 6 months for the brachytherapy seeds to deliver the full dose of radiation. Several months following your treatment, you will be monitored with PSA tests on a regular basis. A steadily declining PSA is a good indicator that the treatment has been successful in killing the cancerous cells.

For more information about PSA testing, visit the Diagnosis section of The Prostate Centre.
